Fire erupts on rooftop of Tenderloin hotel

Fire erupts on rooftop of Tenderloin hotel
A two-alarm fire started by a barbecue on the roof of a Tenderloin residential hotel shot dramatic flames into the sky and sent billows of smoke over the neighborhood Tuesday before being quickly extinguished by San Francisco firefighters. Residents on the top floor of the building were evacuated but everyone else was told to shelter in place, said San Francisco Fire Assistant Chief Art Kenney. Kenney said he thought only one resident would be displaced by damage to a unit, and he hoped that resident would be moved temporarily to another apartment in the same building. "All tenants are safe and accounted for," said Gail Gilman, executive director of Community Housing Partnership, which runs the Senator Hotel. The Senator Hotel is part of the nonprofit Community Housing Partnership network of supportive housing complexes for formerly homeless people.
